Casa Chely is located in the small village of Novetlè in the heart of the Land of Valencia - probably the most beautiful, historic and exciting province of Spain.
Our village is nestled at the foot of Mont Vernissa in the beautiful area known as "La Costera" and just above the "Vall d'Albaida" (the valley of Albaida). These areas are dominated by mountains and offer fine landscapes providing the traveller (and the settler!) with a thousand and one possibilities for enjoyment.
The ancient and beautiful nearby town of Xàtiva (listed as an historic artistic complex) dates back to 30,000BC, was home to the Europe's first ancient paper mill, was birthplace to the world famous painter known as "El Españoleto" and the Borgia Pope Alexander VI.
In addition to being picturesque, Xàtiva is full of surprises. Discover why the portrait of Felipe V hangs upside down in a local museum! Take the "touristic train" to explore the ancient Moorish castle dominating the top of the mountain under which the town lies. Take advantage of the local tourist office, the vibrant nightlife, romantic restaurants, sleepy cafes and bars - then escape back to Casa Chely to recover!
The area is home to many other small towns and villages - most with a surprise or treat in store for the visitor. Here's a sample:
- Montesa - an "island" village crowned with the ruins of a castle that once upon a time housed 2000 soldiers.
- Canals which boasts an entry in the Guinness Book of Records for building the world's largest bonfire (which they continue to do during their fiesta each January).
- The mountain village of Enguera where you must not miss a visit to Willy's Bar to sample the local "gazpacho" (a filling, meaty pasta dish).
- The picturesque village of Anna with its lake where you can swim in the natural waterfall and pools.
Wherever you go, you are bound to enjoy the views, atmosphere, food (and drink!) and people. And if "speaking the lingo" isn't your thing then you can return to Novetlè to chat in English with your host, Angela.
The nearby Bar Chely (also run by Angela) attracts a healthy mixture of both English and Spanish locals - so there's almost always something new to discover and chat about!
